Charge of the MAA Science Policy Committee

The primary purpose of the Science Policy Committee is to assist the Association in anticipating, responding to, and initiating changes in the educational, the financial, and the policy environments that may impact the work of the MAA and its members. Specific responsibilities include:

  • To alert and advise the President and Executive Director about emerging issues that may be relevant to the goals of MAA.

  • To inform the Executive Committee, the Board of Governors, and MAA members about issues and practices relevant to MAA and its members that arise outside the mathematical community.

  • To recommend to the Executive Committee and the Board of Governors actions in the educational, the financial, and the policy environments.

  • To assist the MAA to serve as a resource for Federal and State Governments and for other professional organizations on matters relative to the mathematical sciences, especially at the collegiate level.

  • To cooperate with science policy committees of other societies in gathering and sharing information.
  • Note: None of the responsibilities of the charge of the SPC allows the SPC to make or implement policy.
